Welcome!
On its face, this is a book club. This is a conversation group. This is an excuse to read. In reality, it is a means to an end.
It is a convergence of individuals who have all recently read the same book. Each has viewed the same page from their own perspective. Each has made a point of participating: "doing their homework" and being present. Out of this self-selected group comes a discussion . . . a sharing of perspective . . . an isolation of salient truths . . . a formulation of cogent opinion. Talking, guiding, aruging, understanding, sharing, cooperating and most importantly, listening.
The goal of this group is to share a little bit of health-food for the brain. To work together to sharpen our mind, wit, toungue, ear, heart, self-control, patience and community. To do all this with compatriots both old and new. A starting point of a thousand new adventures.
In reality it is never that graceful. We are talking about a book club here. It comes in fits and starts. The book and the attendees will affect the tone. But the goal is good. The group is good. The books are usually good. I hope to see you there.
Sincerely,
Christopher Dayton
